The Book Thief
I loved this book. Zusak does a wonderful job giving the reader alot of great detail. This book is different that any other book I’ve ever read in the fact that it is written by death.
This is the story of a young German girl, Liesel Meminger, whose mother abandons her at a young age when her younger brother died. Liesel is then taken into the foster care of loving parents Rosa and Hans Hubermann. The setting in 1939 shortly after World War 2. Keeping his promises Hans Hubermann agrees to help out an old friend and hide a Jew in the basement. Slowly Max, the Jew, and Liesel start to build a friendship on reading. Max helps Liesel learn how to read. The only problem is that Liesel’s family does not have any money to buy books for her so she begins to steal them from various places around town.
This book was truly heart warming. It touches you in way you didn’t know a book could. I would defiantly recommend this book to any one middle school level or higher. I will have to say that this book easily makes it into my top 5 favorite books.
